What does a private lesson look like?
I try to customize my lessons for each student's needs, but here is a general idea. We will start with a warm up of scale or flash cards. Followed by a review of the last lesson. We will then focus on your current repertoire which will be from the Suzuki program or a fun piece of your choosing.
What is the difference between a violin tutor and a private teacher?
A private teacher assigns you new material and can work with you on pieces assigned by your conductor. A tutor helps you practice the pieces assigned to you by your private teacher and/or conductor. A tutor can also help you develop effective practicing techniques to maximize your practice sessions.
What is the next step?
Fill out the contact form and I will reach out to you to answer any questions and set up a trial tutor lesson.
How does a tutor help parents?
For parents who are not familiar with string instruments a private tutor is especially helpful. I help your child practice correctly and effectively. This is one less practice session that you “GET” to make time for. I can spot and correct things like bow hold, bow placement, posture, intonation, rhythm and articulation. Students who have a tutor tend to progress more quickly.
How long should a tutoring session be?
Usually the tutoring session is the same length of time as your private teacher lesson. However we can adjust that time to work with you based on how much music you are working on, how long your practice sessions usually last or your availability.
Do I need a private teacher to work with a tutor?
No, I am happy to work with you on any music that you would like to work on. We can also work on the music assigned to you by your conductor if you have one. I am also happy to work with violinists who are currently not taking private lessons or playing in an orchestra or ensemble.
Can I split a tutoring lesson between more than one student?
Yes! I can split a 60 minute tutoring session between two students as long as the tutoring sessions are scheduled back to back and in the same location. If you have a unique situation we can discuss options when we set up your tutoring session.
